Bicycle-riding theatre company The Handlebards will bring their brilliant all-female version of Romeo and Juliet to our very own Fallowfield Loop cycle route in Manchester as part of a tour to mark the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death.

The Handlebards ‘4 for 400’ season includes four plays each performed by four actors in over 70 venues over the summer. The troupes carry all their costumes, props and sets by bicycle, travelling across the National Cycle Network to reach their shows.

Cycle or walk to the open-air show at Levenshulme along our linear traffic-free path, which runs between Chorlton to Gorton, and bring a picnic and a blanket or portable chair.

There will be three led rides to the event at Levenshulme – from Chorlton at one end of the Fallowfield Loop, Debdale Park at the other end, and Heaton Moor.

Timeout Loves Levenshulme

A few reasons to love Levenshulme by Becci Johnson in Timeout:

  • You baulk at the prospect of another A6 takeaway.
  • You’ve gotten to know your neighbours through visiting Levy Market.
  • You’ve gotten to know your neighbours through visiting Levy Market.
  • You monitor the seasons by driving up Errwood Road, whilst you fight the urge to stop and buy biscuits.
  • You know how to find the secret lake.
  • You smile wryly at tourists taking selfies on a nameless street.

You could fill the whole magazine with reasons why Levenshulme is so great, though.

Children’s Sponsored Walk For Refugees In Crisis 27th September

Young children want to raise money for those who have lost everything and seeking refuge for safety.

On Saturday evening my husband and I spoke to our children (aged 8, 5 and 3) about the Syrian conflict in a sensitive way that children their age would understand. We wanted them to be aware so that we could donate items and they would understand why.

My eight year old daughter suggested a sponsored walk to raise money to help and we burst with pride. I explained to the boys what a sponsored walk was and they giddily agreed.

We are going to walk the Fallowfield loop on 27th September at 1pm starting at the entrance at Slade Lane and will walk to Gorton. They will then have to do the journey back again.

Other families have said they will join us so I have created this event page so that people can invite other families or sponsor those walking or toddling.

There will be children of different ages and stages so I propose parents/carers wanting to get involved to set your own targets for your child’s individual needs. that way everybody who would like to participate and raise money can be included. Also id say bike riding, scooting, running are allowed as they are children after all.

For those attending please bring appropriate clothing for the weather and water.

Some families may even want to bring a picnic, the loop has some lovely spots to sit and we will also pass the secret lake.

If you cant join us, please sponsor the children.

Thank you.
